Wage Rate Index – 2nd Quarter 2015
            The wage rate index for the second quarter 2015 (Base: 4th quarter 2011 = 100) increased by 1.1% or 1.4 points to reach 127.6 from 126.2 in the first quarter 2015.
 
 
2.       Main changes registered in the sub-indices from 1st Quarter 2015 to 2nd Quarter 2015 are:
 
Agriculture, forestry and fishing
 16.3%
Real estate activities
 2.9%
Construction
 2.2%
Administrative and support service activities
 2.2%
Arts, entertainment and recreation
 2.1%
 
 
Transport and storage
-0.1%
            The increase in ‘Agriculture, forestry and fishing’ is explained by high wages and allowances being paid due to the start of crop season.
 
3.         The wage rate index for the General Government sector which comprises Ministries, Government departments and agencies operating under them, municipalities, district councils and Rodrigues Regional Assembly increased by 0.4% to reach 136.9 in the 2nd Quarter 2015 from 136.3 in the 1st Quarter 2015. This sector accounts for around 32% of the total weight of the wage rate index.
