Tourist arrivals
 
1.      The number of tourist arrivals for the 1st Quarter of 2015 increased by 10.6% to reach 291,329.
 
2.      This is attributable to growths in all our main markets as shown in the table below.

4.      Sweden and Finland also contributed to this growth by bringing in some 4,800 additional tourists thanks to direct flights from Stockholm and Helsinki.
 
5.      The top two markets, France and Reunion, have rebounded and returned to growth after consecutive decreases in 2011-2014 and 2013-2014 respectively.
 
6.      Among the emerging markets, China and India posted increases of +24.8% and +17.6% respectively whereas Russian Federation posted a decrease of -21.2% (from 5,257 to 4,142).
 
7.      Based on recent data on tourist arrivals and information gathered from stakeholders, the forecast of 1,100,000 tourist arrivals for the year 2015 is maintained. This represents an increase of around +6% over the figure of 1,038,968 in 2014.
 
Tourism earnings
 
8.      According to the Bank of Mauritius, tourism earnings for the year 2015 are forecasted at around Rs 48,500 million.
