Survey of Employment & Earnings in large establishments March 2014

Highlights
 
 Change in employment from March 2013 to March 2014
 
1.      Employment in large establishments increased by 675 from 306,829 (192,551 males and 114,278 females) to 307,504 (192,394 males and 115,110 females).
2.      Main changes in employment were registered in the following industry groups:
 
Public administration and defence; compulsory social security +913
Professional, scientific and technical activities  +822
Financial and insurance activities +279
Construction ​-1,846
Agriculture, forestry and fishing -370
 
 
 
3.      Employment in the General Government Sector increased by 142 from 72,908 (46,949 males and 25,959 females) to 73,050 (46,758 males and 26,292 females).Female employment increased by 333 while male employment decreased by 191.
4.      Employment in large Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) decreased by 208 from 54,155 (23,826 males and 30,329 females) to 53,947 (24,520 males and 29,427 females).
5.      The number of foreign workers increased by 1,772 from 26,359 (16,631 males and 9,728 females) to 28,131 (18,347 males and 9,784 females).

6.       Overall average monthly earnings in large establishments increased by 4.9% from Rs 23,287 to Rs 24,423. A general upward trend was observed in all industry groups with highest increases in ‘Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply’ (18.4%), ‘Transportation and storage’ (11.8%) and ‘Water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities’ (10.3%).
7.      Average monthly earnings in the large establishments of the EOE sector increased by 7 % from Rs 12,175 to Rs 13,027.
