Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE)
3rd Quarter 2015
Export Oriented Enterprise (EOE) consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the Board of Investment.
1. Compared to the second quarter of 2015, employment in EOE decreased by 234 (-0.4%) from 54,122 to 53,888. This decrease is the result of 774 job losses and creation of 540 new jobs. Employment of Mauritians went down by 292 (-0.9%) from 31,502 to 31,210 while the number of foreign workers increased by 58 (+0.3%) from 22,620 to 22,678.
2. EOE exports during the third quarter of 2015 amounted to R 12,986 million, 1.0% lower compared to the second quarter of 2015 and 2.3% higher compared to the corresponding quarter of 2014. EOE imports was estimated at R 6,641 million in the third quarter of 2015, 7.6% lower compared to the previous quarter and 14.0% lower compared to corresponding quarter of 2014.
