Construction Price Index 1stQuarter2015

Construction Price Index – 1st  Quarter 2015
Highlights

1.                  The Construction Price Index, which stood at 112.3 as at December 2014 increased by 1.4 % or 1.6 points during the first quarter of 2015 to reach 113.9 in March 2015.

2.                  On a monthly basis, the index registered an increase of 1.3% in January 2015, remained almost at the same level in February 2015 and increased by 0.1% in March 2015.

3.                  The rise from 112.3 in December 2014 to 113.8 in January 2015 is the result of higher wages following the 2015 salary compensation coupled with an increase of 2.3% in the prices of ceramic tiles, partly offset by a decrease of 0.1% in the prices of steel bars. In February 2015, the index dropped to 113.7 as a result of a further decrease in the prices of steel bars (-1.1%) and lower prices of metal openings (-0.2%), partly offset by increases in the prices of timber carpentry (0.9%), ceramic tiles (2.2%) and sanitary installation (0.5%). However, in March 2015, the index increased again to 113.9 due to increases in the prices of cement (0.7%), timber carpentry (0.6%) and sanitary installation (0.3%).

4.                  As a consequence of the above changes, the “Labour” sub-index increased by 4.5% or 5.2 points in January 2015 and remained unchanged during the months of February and March 2015. The “Materials” sub-index remained unchanged in January 2015, dropped by 0.1% or 0.1 point in February 2015 and registered an increase of 0.2% or 0.2 point in March 2015.

5.                  During the first quarter of 2015, no change was registered in the “Hire of plant” and “Transport” sub-indices.
