Wage Rate Index – 4th Quarter 2016
            The wage rate index for the fourth quarter 2016 (Base: 4th quarter 2011 = 100) increased by 0.1% or 0.2 point to reach 135.5 from 135.3 in the third quarter 2016.
 
2.       Main changes registered in the sub indices from 3rd Quarter to 4th Quarter 2016 are:

Wage Rate Index – Year 2016           
3.         The wage rate index for the year 2016, worked out as the average of the quarterly indices went up by 5.2% or 6.6 points from 127.7 in 2015 to 134.3 in 2016. The wage rate index for the General Government sector which comprises Ministries, Government departments and agencies operating under them, municipalities, district councils and Rodrigues Regional Assembly increased, by 6.8% from 136.7 in 2015 to 146.0 in 2016. This increase is due to salary revision effective as from January 2016. This sector accounts for around 32% of the total weight of the wage rate index.
