Wage Rate Index - 2nd Quarter 2018

Highlights
(Base: fourth quarter 2016=100)
The wage rate index increased by 0.7% or 0.8 point to reach 107.9 in the 2nd quarter of 2018 from 107.1 in the 1st quarter.       
 
2.       Main changes registered in the sub-indices from 1st Quarter 2018 to 2nd Quarter 2018 are:
 
Mining and quarrying
+3.1%
Agriculture, forestry and fishing
+2.5%
Manufacturing
+2.5%
Arts, entertainment and recreation
+1.6%
Administrative and support service activities
+1.4%
Transportation and storage
+1.3%
 
 
Public administration and defence; compulsory social security
-0.5%
 
 
 
3.       The wage rate index for the General Government sector which accounts for around 34% of the total weight of the wage rate index decreased by 0.1% to reach 104.6 in the 2nd quarter of 2018 from 104.7 in the 1st quarter, mainly explained by new recruits.
 
4.       The index for the public sector which comprises General Government and Public enterprises and accounting for around 46% of the wage rate index, increased by 0.1% or 0.1 point from 106.6 in 1st quarter 2018 to 106.7 in 2nd quarter 2018.
 
 
5.       The index for the private sector which accounts for around 54% of the total weight of the wage rate index increased by 1.2% or 1.3 points from 107.6 in 1st quarter 2018 to 108.9 in 2nd quarter 2018.
