Wage Rate Index - 1st Quarter 2019

 

Highlights
(Base: fourth quarter 2016=100)
The wage rate index increased by 1.3% or 1.4 points to reach 110.9 in the 1st quarter of 2019 from 109.5 in the 4th quarter 2018.
 
2.       Main changes registered in the sub-indices from 4th Quarter 2018 to 1st Quarter 2019 are:
 
Public administration and defence; compulsory social security

Human health and social work activities

Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities
+2.1%
Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles

 3.       The wage rate index for the general government sector which accounts for around 34% of the total weight of the wage rate index increased by 1.3% to reach 106.1 in the 1st quarter of 2019 from 103.6 in the 4th quarter 2018.
4.       The index for the public sector which comprises general government and public enterprises and accounting for around 46% of the wage rate index, increased by 2.1% or 2.2 points from 106.8 in 4th quarter 2018 to 109.0 in 1st quarter 2019.
 
5.       The index for the private sector which accounts for around 54% of the total weight of the wage rate index increased by 0.6% or 0.7 point from 111.7 in 4th quarter 2018 to 112.4 in 1st quarter 2019.
