Tourist arrivals
 
1.      The number of tourist arrivals for the year 2014 increased by 4.6% to reach 1,038,968.
 
2.      Most of our main markets except France, Reunion and South Africa registered positive growths as shown in the table below:

3.      France has not yet returned to growth but is showing signs of recovery, considering a slight decrease of -0.4% in tourist arrivals in 2014 as compared to higher decreases of -6.5% in 2011, -9.0% in 2012 and -4.7% in 2013.
 
4.      On the other hand, Reunion recorded a decrease of around -1.0% in both 2013 and 2014 while South Africa recorded its first decrease since 2010.
 
5.      Among the emerging markets, India and China posted increases of 6.8% and 51.2% respectively whereas Russian Federation posted a decrease of 10.8% (from 14,905 to 13,289).
 
6.      Based on recent data on tourist arrivals and information gathered from stakeholders, the forecast of 1,100,000 tourist arrivals for the year 2015 is maintained. This represents an increase of around 6% over the figure of 1,038,968 in 2014.
 
Tourism earnings
 
7.      According to the Bank of Mauritius, tourism earnings for the year 2014 amounted to Rs 44,304 million, up by 9.2% from Rs 40,557 million in 2013. For 2015, tourism earnings are forecasted at around Rs 48,500 million.
