Tourist arrivals
 
1.      The number of tourist arrivals for the first nine months of 2014 increased by 4.5% to reach 725,623.
 
2.      The performance of our main markets, which accounted for 75% of total tourist arrivals for the first nine months of 2014, is given in the table below:

3.      All the main markets registered positive growths except France (-2.4%) and South Africa (-1.9%).
 
4.      Among the emerging markets, India and China posted increases of 3.7% and 66.5% respectively whereas Russian Federation posted a decrease of 12.7% (from 10,521 to 9,184).
 
6.   Based on recent data on tourist arrivals and information gathered from stakeholders, the forecast of tourist arrivals for the year 2014 is revised upwards from 1,030,000 to 1,040,000.  Compared to 993,106 in 2013, this will result in a growth of 4.7%.  The forecasted number of tourists for 2015 is around 1,100,000.
 
Tourism earnings
 
7.   According to the Bank of Mauritius, tourism earnings for the first nine months of 2014 amounted to Rs 32,232 million, up by 10.7% from Rs 29,105 million in 2013.
 
8.   For the year 2014, the forecast of tourism earnings is revised upwards from Rs 44,500 million to
Rs 45,000 million, representing an increase of 11.0% compared to 2013. For 2015, tourism earnings are `     forecasted at around Rs 50,000 million.
