Highlights
1. The Quarterly Index of Industrial Production shows the evolution of the volume or real output of the Industrial Sector comprising “Mining and quarrying”, “Manufacturing”, “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply” and “Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities”.
2. In the first quarter of 2018, the overall index of industrial production went down by 16.3% compared to the previous quarter but expanded by 2.7% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2017.
3. The performance of the sub-sectors within the industrial sector is as follows:

4. There was a net expansion of 2.4% in Industrial output for year ending first quarter 2018, i.e. second quarter 2017 to first quarter 2018. This is explained by increases in “Mining and quarrying” (+0.6%), “Manufacturing” sector (+2.0%) “Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply” (+3.2%) and “Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities” (+4.4%).
