Overall index
 
The Producer Price Index–Agriculture, which was 99.7 in June 2018, went down by 5.5% to reach 94.2 in September 2018. The index decreased by 2.3% and 7.7% in July and August respectively and increased by 4.8% in September.
                              
Sugar cane
 
The index for “Sugar cane” for the period July to September 2018 was 58.7 based on the provisional price of sugar for the 2018 crop. This represents a decrease of 13.3% over the 2017 crop. It is assumed that the same price prevails during the whole of the crop year. 
 
Other crop products
 
-          In July 2018, the index for “Other crop products” went up by 3.0% mainly due to the combined effects of an increase in the prices of fresh vegetables (+14.5%) and a decrease in the prices of fruits and nuts (-17.6%).
-          In September 2018, the index increased by 17.0% mainly due to an increase in the prices of fresh vegetables (+54.9%), partly offset by a decrease in the prices of fruits and nuts (-19.2%).
 
Animals and animal products
 
-          In July 2018, the index for “Animals and animal products” went down by 0.3% due to the combined effects of a decrease in the prices of milk (-11.6%) and an increase in the prices of goat (+1.4%).
-          In August 2018, the index increased by 1.3% due to increases in the prices of poultry (+1.6%) and eggs (+0.8%).
-          In September 2018, the index dropped by 0.3% due to a decrease in the prices of eggs (-1.5%).
 
2. Quarterly index
 
During the third quarter of 2018, PPI-A decreased by 9.3% compared to the previous quarter. This was due to decreases in the prices of fresh vegetables (-29.8%) and fruits and nuts (-4.3%), partly offset by higher prices of Animals and animal products (+1.4%).
 
Compared to the third quarter of 2017, the index increased by 1.6%.
