Tourist arrivals
1. The number of tourist arrivals for the year 2013 was 993,106 up by 2.9% from 965,441 in 2012.
2. The performance of our main markets, which accounted for 74% of total tourist arrivals for the year 2013, is given in the table below:

3. Apart from France and Reunion, tourist arrivals from the main markets registered positive growths.
4. As regards the three emerging markets, tourist arrivals from:
(i) India increased by 3.7% from 55,197 to 57,255;
(ii) People’s Rep. of China doubled from 20,885 to 41,913; and
(iii) Russian Federation decreased by 23.3% from 19,429 to 14,905.
5. Based on availability of recent data on tourist arrivals and information gathered from stakeholders, the forecast of tourist arrivals for the year 2014 is reviewed upwards to 1,030,000. Compared to 993,106 tourist arrivals in 2013, this will result in a growth of 3.7%.
Tourism earnings
6. According to the Bank of Mauritius, tourism earnings for the year 2013 amounted to Rs 40,557 million, down by 8.6 % from Rs 44,378 million in 2012.
7. For the year 2014, tourism earnings would be around Rs 44,500 million.
