Tourist arrivals
 
1.         The number of tourist arrivals for the first nine months of 2015 increased by 10.8% to reach 803,755.
 
2.                  The performance of our main markets, which accounted for 76% of total tourist arrivals for the first nine months of 2015, is given in the table below:

3.                  Among the emerging markets, India and China posted increases of 20.6% and 40.3% respectively whereas Russian Federation posted a decrease of 11.2% (from 9,184 to 8,157). Moreover it is worth noting that for the period under review, tourist arrivals from Sweden more than doubled (from 2,945 to 6,746) as a result of direct flights from Stockholm.
 
4.         Based on recent data on tourist arrivals and information gathered from stakeholders, the forecast of tourist arrivals for the year 2015 is revised upwards from 1,115,000 to 1,140,000.  Compared to 1,038,968 in 2014, this will result in a growth of 9.7%.  The forecasted number of tourists for 2016 is 1,200,000.
 
 
Tourism earnings
 
5.         The Bank of Mauritius has revised its forecast of tourism earnings for the year 2015 upwards from Rs 46.5 billion to Rs 49.5 billion as a result of the inclusion of data culled from Money changers and Foreign exchange dealers, in addition to those obtained from banking records. This revised forecast represents an increase of 11.7 % when compared to the Rs 44.3 billion for 2014. For the year 2016, tourism earnings are forecasted at Rs 52 billion.
