Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ certificate as well as those manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the Board of Investment.
1. Compared to the third quarter of 2015, employment in EOE decreased by 287 (-0.5%) from 53,888 to 53,601. This decrease is the net result of 710 job losses and creation of 423 new jobs in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians went down by 185 (-0.6%) from 31,210 to 31,025 and that of foreign workers decreased by 102 (-0.4%) from 22,678 to 22,576.
2. EOE exports during the fourth quarter of 2015 amounted to R 11,888 million, lower by 5.8% compared to the third quarter of 2015 and by 0.4% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2014. EOE imports were estimated at R 7,155 million in the fourth quarter of 2015, representing an increase of 7.7% compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 1.5% compared to corresponding quarter of 2014.
