1. EOE consists of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the Board of Investment.
2. At the end of fourth quarter 2017, employment in EOE stood at 52,172, lower by 509 (-1.0%) compared to 52,681 for the third quarter of 2017. The decrease of 509 in employment during the fourth quarter of 2017 is the net result of 1,133 job losses and the creation of 624 new jobs in existing enterprises. The number of Mauritians employed in the EOE sector went down by 272 (-0.9%) from 29,245 to 28,973 and the number of foreign workers decreased by 237 (-1.0%) from 23,436 at the end of September 2017 to 23,199 at the end of December 2017.
3. EOE exports during the fourth quarter of 2017 amounted to R 10,902 million, 6.8% lower compared to the third quarter of 2017 and 1.2% lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2016. EOE imports amounted to R 7,517 million, 8.1% higher than the third quarter of 2017 and 22.9% higher than the fourth quarter of 2016.
