1. EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.
2. Compared to the second quarter of 2018, total employment in EOE decreased by 50 (-0.1%) from 50,207 to 50,157. Some 920 new jobs were created whilst 970 jobs were lost. The job losses were due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises (-895) and closure of enterprises (-75). Employment of Mauritians went down by 246 (-0.9%) from 27,947 to 27,701 while that of foreign workers increased by 196 (+0.9%) from 22,260 to 22,456.
3. EOE exports during the third quarter of 2018 amounted to R 11,625 million, 2.4% higher compared to the second quarter of 2018 and 0.6% lower compared to the third quarter of 2017. EOE imports amounted to R 6,667 million, 2.9% lower than the second quarter of 2018 and 4.0% lower than the third quarter of 2017.
