Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ certificate as well as those manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the Board of Investment.
1. Compared to the second quarter of 2016, employment in EOE decreased by 200 (-0.4%) from 52,593 to 52,393. This decrease is the result of 774 job losses in contracting enterprises and 574 job gains in expanding ones. Employment of Mauritians went down by 277 (-0.9%) from 29,880 to 29,603 and that of foreign workers went up by 77 (+0.3%) from 22,713 to 22,790.
2. EOE exports during the third quarter of 2016 amounted to R 11,178 million, lower by 4.4% compared to the previous quarter and 11.4% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2015. EOE imports were estimated at R 6,285 million in the third quarter of 2016, representing decreases of 8.2% compared to the previous quarter and 5.4% compared to corresponding quarter of 2015.
