1. EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the Board of Investment.
2. Compared to the first quarter of 2018, total employment in EOE decreased by 931 (-1.8%) from 51,138 to 50,207. Some 537 new jobs were created whilst 1,468 jobs were lost. The job losses were due to the contraction of workforce in some enterprises (-1,411), the removal of one enterprise from the EOE sector (-22) and closure of enterprises (-35). Employment of Mauritians went down by 447 (-1.6%) from 28,394 to 27,947 and that of foreign workers decreased by 484 (-2.1%) from 22,744 to 22,260.
3. EOE exports during the second quarter of 2018 amounted to R 11,354 million, 15.2% higher compared to the first quarter of 2018 and 1.8% higher compared to the second quarter of 2017. EOE imports amounted to R 6,867 million, 16.2% higher than the first quarter of 2018 and 1.0% lower than the second quarter of 2017.
