Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ certificate as well as those manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the Board of Investment.
1. Compared to the first quarter of 2016, employment in EOE decreased by 133 (-0.3%) from 52,726 to 52,593. This decrease is the net result of 549 job losses and creation of 416 new jobs in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians went down by 95 (-0.3%) from 29,975 to 29,880 and that of foreign workers decreased by 38 (-0.2%) from 22,751 to 22,713.
2. EOE exports during the second quarter of 2016 amounted to R 11,693 million, higher by 11.1% compared to the previous quarter and lower by 10.9% when compared to the corresponding quarter of 2015. EOE imports were estimated at R 6,846 million in the second quarter of 2016, representing an increase of 6.6% compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 4.8 % compared to corresponding quarter of 2015.
