Export Oriented Enterprises (EOE) consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ certificate as well as those manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the Board of Investment.
1. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2015, employment in EOE decreased by 875 (-1.6%) from 53,601 to 52,726. This decrease is the net result of 1,445 job losses and creation of 570 new jobs in existing enterprises. Employment of Mauritians went down by 1,050 (-3.4%) from 31,025 to 29,975 while that of foreign workers increased by 175 (+0.8%) from 22,576 to 22,751.
2. EOE exports during the first quarter of 2016 amounted to R 10,528 million, lower by 11.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2015 and by 4.8% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2015. EOE imports were estimated at R 6,423 million in the first quarter of 2016, representing a decrease of 10.2% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 1.5% compared to corresponding quarter of 2015.
