Construction Price Index - 2nd Quarter 2018

Highlights
 
1.       The Construction Price Index which stood at 118.5 as at March 2018, registered an increase of 0.3 point (0.3%) during the second quarter of 2018 to reach 118.8 in June 2018.
2.       During the second quarter of 2018, increases were noted in “Materials” sub-index (0.9%) and “Hire of Plant” sub-index (0.2%). The “Labour” and “Transport” sub-indices remained unchanged.
3.       The increase of 0.2% in the “Hire of Plant” sub-index was due to higher rates for hiring of metal plaques compared to the first quarter of 2018 while the increase of 0.9% registered in the “Materials” sub-index was mainly due to:
(i)    increases in the prices of steel bars in April (0.5%), May (0.7%) and June (1.0%);
(ii)   increases in the prices of timber carpentry in April (1.7%);
(iii)  increases in the prices of paint in May (0.7%);
