Wage Rate Index – 1st Quarter 2012
The wage rate index (Base = September 2006) increased by 1.0% or 1.5 points to reach 147.1 in the 1st quarter 2012 from 145.6 in the 4th quarter 2011. Compared to 1st Quarter 2011, the wage rate index increased by 2.7% or 3.8 points.
2. Main changes registered in the sub indices from the 4th Quarter 2011 to 1st Quarter 2012 are:
Public administration and defence; etc. 4.3%
Transport, storage & Communications 3.4%
Financial intermediation 2.6%
Health & social work 2.4%
Agric, hunting, forestry and fishing -6.9%
3. The most important industry groups in terms of weight, that is, ‘Public administration and defence; compulsory social security’ and ‘Manufacturing’ registered increases of 4.3% and 0.3% respectively.
4. The wage rate index for the General Government sector which comprises Ministries, Government departments and agencies operating under them, municipalities, district councils and Rodrigues Regional Assembly increased by 3.5%. This sector accounts for one third of the weight of the wage rate index.
